Valorant Episode 9: New Map 'Ascension' and Agent 'Nova' Bring Fresh Tactics
Riot’s tactical shooter expands with a new agent and map, shaking up the competitive meta.
Valorant’s Episode 9 has arrived, bringing with it the highly anticipated Ascension map and a brand-new agent named Nova. Set in a futuristic floating city, Ascension introduces vertical gameplay elements with its multi-level design and zip lines connecting different sections of the map.
Nova, the game’s 25th agent, is a Controller with abilities focused on manipulating light. Her abilities include:
- Luminous Barrier: Creates a transparent wall that blocks bullets but allows teammates to see through
- Radiant Flare: A flashbang that blinds enemies while revealing their positions to teammates
- Prism: Places a rotating light prism that reflects bullets around corners
- Solar Eclipse (Ultimate): Creates a dome of intense light that reveals all enemy positions and slows movement
The update also includes balance changes to several agents, with adjustments to Jett’s mobility and Sage’s healing capabilities. Competitive players are already analyzing how Nova’s kit might impact the meta, particularly in professional play.
Riot has also announced a new tournament circuit for Valorant Champions Tour 2026, with increased prize pools and more regional events.
